PORTLAND, Ore. -- RaceSert Manufacturing is expanding its permanent thread-repair system for high-performance engines and automotive applications with the new RaceSert Deep Kit and L.A.D. Jig, giving technicians, engine builders and automotive hobbyists greater repair capability and improved installation precision. RaceSert will showcase its latest products and demonstrate its thread-repair system at two of the automotive industry's leading trade shows this fall: at SEMA from Nov. 3-6 in Las Vegas and at PRI from Dec. 10-12 in Indianapolis. Live demonstrations will show how RaceSert interference-fit inserts can repair damaged mounting threads without tapping new threads or using adhesives or conventional threaded inserts. The system is designed to provide a permanent repair capable of withstanding the vibration, torque and repeated heat cycles associated with demanding automotive applications. RaceSert Deep Extends Repair Capabilities Introduced this summer, the RaceSert Deep Kit extends the capabilities of the company's original RaceSert Surface Kit, which is designed for shallow holes of approximately 1 inch or less. RaceSert Deep can repair damaged threaded holes as deep as 4.5 inches, opening the system to a wider range of engine and high-performance applications. The repair process begins by preparing the damaged hole with the supplied tooling and creating a precision counterbore to accommodate the installation bolt. The bolt positions the RaceSert at the correct depth before installation. Because the insert is installed using an interference fit, the process does not require tapping the hole or applying thread-locking compounds. “Even the best mechanics and machinists can get anxious when they encounter damaged threads, particularly when working on a high-performance engine where tapping can create additional risks,” said Josh Eckstrom, general manager of RaceSert Manufacturing. “RaceSert gives them a straightforward way to make the repair without tapping the original hole. It’s fast, precise and designed to hold up to the demands of the application.” RaceSert inserts feature pockets designed to capture metal chips generated during drilling, helping keep debris from interfering with thread engagement. For deeper applications, RaceSert has also strengthened the installation hardware supplied with the Deep Kit to withstand the additional torque required to install the inserts. Despite their heavy-duty construction, RaceSert repairs can typically be completed in just a few minutes, with the installation itself designed to take approximately one to two minutes. New L.A.D. Jig Improves Installation Precision The new L.A.D. Jig is designed to make one of the most critical steps in the RaceSert repair process easier: drilling a precisely perpendicular, concentric pilot hole. “When we developed the RaceSert system, we found that getting a perfectly straight hole could be one of the most difficult parts of the repair,” Eckstrom said. “The L.A.D. Jig gives users a consistent way to get the alignment right, helping make the installation process more precise and repeatable.” The jig features two adjustable arms that guide the drill bit during the repair process. In tight spaces, users can operate the jig with a single arm. The L.A.D. Jig fits engine blocks and cylinder heads and is compatible with every size of RaceSert insert. RaceSert offers drill bushings in both metric and imperial sizes, with seven jig sizes covering the company's complete range of RaceSert inserts. The L.A.D. Jig is manufactured from 6061 aluminum, while its drill bushings are made from S7 tool steel and dual-tempered to 54-56 HRC. Engineered for High-Performance Applications RaceSerts are hardened to 62-64 HRC and are designed for use with a variety of engine-block materials, including aluminum, steel and cast iron. Their design is intended to withstand the high temperatures, torque and repeated heat cycles common in high-performance engines. RaceSerts are available in 3/8-, 7/16- and 1/2-inch sizes, as well as 10mm, 11mm and 12mm metric sizes. “High-performance engines call for a thread-repair system that can match the demands of the engine itself,” Eckstrom said. “We work with engines producing as much as 5,000 horsepower, and we’ve seen firsthand how important a strong, reliable thread repair can be. RaceSerts are designed for the performance, strength and durability these applications demand.” See RaceSert in Action RaceSert will offer live product demonstrations at: SEMA Show | Nov. 3-6 | Las Vegas, Nevada South Hall, Booth 37228 PRI Show | Dec. 10-12 | Indianapolis, Indiana Yellow Hall, Booth 4844 Visit www.racesert.com for more information.
