Hiroshima-Based Kyoritsu Industry to Showcase Two GRASSHOPPER Custom Kei Trucks at SEMA SHOW 2026

HIROSHIMA, Japan -- Kyoritsu Industry Co., Ltd., a 53-employee truck-body builder and metal fabricator in Hatsukaichi, Hiroshima, will bring two vehicles from its GRASSHOPPER custom kei truck brand to the 2026 SEMA Show, Nov. 3-6, at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The CAMPER and SPORTS MECHANIC (S•MECHANIC) will be displayed in West Hall, Booth #56015.

Kyoritsu is attending the show to meet potential partners for vehicle import, distribution, and manufacturing collaboration outside of Japan. The company will also introduce GRASSHOPPER and its Hiroshima-based fabrication capabilities to buyers, builders, and automotive media.

Two Trucks Built Around Use
Kyoritsu launched GRASSHOPPER in 2022 around the idea of "Designing How You Use It." Each build starts with a Japanese kei-class mini truck. Kyoritsu adds a slant-back canopy that gives the truck a coupe-like profile, then designs the cargo area around a specific use, including storage, work, rest, cooking or overnight travel. The brand's English line is "COMPACT BODY. LIMITLESS POSSIBILITIES."

Displaying two vehicles with different purposes shows that GRASSHOPPER is not limited to camping conversions. The same compact platform can support outdoor travel or function as a mobile workspace.

Camper
The GRASSHOPPER SEMA Show Edition - Camper is designed for camping, overnight stays, travel breaks and simple outdoor cooking. It is based on a 2026 Daihatsu Hijet Truck Jumbo S510P with a CVT, 4WD and a 660cc engine.
• Offbeat Khaki Metallic factory finish
• GFRP slant-back canopy and pop-up tent
• 11-tier storage unit with an integrated kitchen bench
• 270-degree awning with LED lighting
• 50mm lift suspension, overfenders and off-road tires

Sports Mechanic
The GRASSHOPPER SEMA Show Edition - Sports Mechanic is designed as a mobile tool cabinet for jobsite work and the transport of tools, parts and equipment. It is based on a rare 1998 Daihatsu Hijet Truck "is" S110P, a variant produced for only two years. The truck has a five-speed manual transmission, 4WD and a 660cc engine.
• Custom deep-black finish
• Slant-back canopy and 13-tier storage cabinet
• Modified rear-cab opening and reclining bucket seat
• 30mm lowering suspension, overfenders and wide tires

Seeking International Partners
During the SEMA Show, Kyoritsu will study regulatory, transportation, sales and service requirements before deciding whether to offer GRASSHOPPER outside Japan. The company is seeking discussions with:
• Companies that can manage export from Japan and import into overseas markets
• Distributors that can handle local sales and customer support
• Service and parts partners

The two vehicles are show cars temporarily imported under an ATA Carnet. They will not be sold at the show. Their display does not announce a launch outside of Japan or certify the vehicles for public-road use in another country.

From Hiroshima to SEMA
"We want the SEMA audience to see how we combine the manufacturing skills developed in Hiroshima with the flexibility of a small company," said Masaya Segawa, representative director of Kyoritsu Industry. "Our goal is to meet partners who can support import, distribution and production. We also want our employees to see that the work they do every day has value on a global stage."

Kyoritsu previously exhibited Honda Acty-based GRASSHOPPER builds at the 2024 SEMA Show and participated in Osaka Auto Messe in 2024, 2025 and 2026. The 2026 SEMA project received support through a Hiroshima Prefecture overseas market expansion grant under an emergency program related to U.S. tariffs. Grant funding was approved Dec. 5, 2025.
